The Making

Inception

The "Big Hogan" is named after the rock feature inside Monument Valley. Which is a rock alcove that has a hole in the top. The door or opening is facing to the east and is made of the earth. It has always been one of my favorite places, due to the natural acoustics within.

Elements

The Hogan has many references and symbolisms baked into the building. That is taught from childhood.

Juniper

The logs for the Hogan are Juniper. They are a much hardier wood than pine found in our region. They are able to withstand rot and hold up in the ground much longer than pine.

First you must debark the Juniper logs and clean them well. Its best to do this step relatively fast and right after they are cut down.
